Microchipping: Helping Keep Your Pet Safe

A microchip is a simple, safe, and permanent way to help identify your pet if they are ever lost or separated from your family. Unlike collars and tags, which can fall off or become damaged, a microchip provides a reliable form of identification that stays with your pet for life.

Microchipping is especially important because thousands of pets are lost each year, and a registered microchip greatly increases the chance of being reunited with their family. Shelters, veterinary hospitals, and animal control facilities can scan a lost pet’s microchip and use the registration information to contact the owner.

The procedure is quick and minimally invasive. A small microchip, about the size of a grain of rice, is placed under the skin between the shoulder blades using a specialized applicator. Most pets tolerate the process very well, and it can often be done during a routine wellness visit or while your pet is already under anesthesia for a procedure.

After placement, it is important to register your pet’s microchip and keep your contact information updated so it can be used effectively if your pet is ever found.

Microchipping is a simple step that provides lifelong protection and peace of mind for you and your companion.
